Meet Us | Congregation L'Dor Va-Dor - Boynton Beach Jewish Congregation

Meet Us

Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor has its unique mission to offer a full range of congregational programs for adults, children and seniors. We are led by Rabbi Barry Silver, whose leadership has allowed us to evolve into a synagogue that practices a special blend of modern, progressive Judaism that, while rooted in the Bible, is also grounded in a modern understanding of reason and science. Out of this mission, we have created a special congregation that believes in peace and harmony, attracting people of all faiths and a respectful exchange of ideas and views. Together, we seek understanding and wisdom in our daily lives.

We seek to support the physical and spiritual needs of our community by embracing Jewish ethics and values. We provide unique opportunities to meet through physical and online/virtual programs and services, allowing each individual and their family to participate in a level of spirituality that is uplifting and is shared among friends and congregants. Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor is an established 501c3 entity.

Our Congregation

Membership

We are constantly cultivating and expanding our membership base through outreach to new members, interfaith Jews and their families with services and programs designed for their unique needs.

Enrichment

We present our congregation with stimulating, current, and relevant educational activities with emphasis on development of their spiritual lives, prayer, and social consciousness.

Facility

Covid-19 has allowed us to expand our virtual program to include services, dynamic programming, and simple “schmoozing” with friends and guests.  As the nation starts to slowly return to some sort of “normal”, we are beginning to meet for Shabbat in person several times per month, at indoor or outdoor facilities.  We are continuing to pursue procuring a permanent location to call our “own” and look forward to this in the near future.

Rabbi Barry practices civil, constitutional and abortion rights, public interest, environmental, and personal injury law.  He was named Feminist of the Year by Broward NOW, after winning a landmark case in defense of abortion rights, was honored by the Black Police Officers of America for advocacy of civil rights and has received many other awards.

Rabbi Barry served from 1996 to 1998 in the Florida House of Representatives where he was named “Most Effective Environmental Legislator” by the Sierra Club and “Consumer Champion” by Florida’s largest consumer group.  Since 1990, he has been included in Who’s Who of American Law for significant contributions to the betterment of society.

Rabbi Barry founded the Palm Beach County Environmental Coalition and Interfaith Justice League and has organized many interfaith rallies, demonstrations and legal efforts on behalf of the environment, civil rights, animal rights, Israel, Native Americans, and the homeless.

Rabbi Barry conducts spiritual Shabbat celebrations on Friday evenings, serving Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor, where Judaism is treasured, reason is cherished, interfaith harmony flourishes, science is honored, and outreach is extended to all.  He is married to Francine Silver and has two sons, Ari and Brandon.
