A discussion of Charles Darwin’s legacy and his impact on religion
Come let us reason together Isaiah 1:18
Congregation Beth Adam leader BJ Saul and Rabbi Barry Silver will
share how evolution enhances Judaism’s quest for truth and meaning
On February 12, 1809, two great luminaries in the annals of mankind were born,
who would change the world forever. While Lincoln was called “The Great
Emancipator”, for his tremendous achievement in helping to liberate a people
from bondage in America, this accolade could also describe Charles Darwin, who
liberated our species from enslavement to religious indoctrination, and opened
the eyes of all who choose to see, to the true origins of all life on earth, and the
heroic struggle of our species to adapt and survive over vast eons of time.
Darwin challenges our species’ childish conceit that humans were created in the
image of God, while all other living things were created solely to serve our needs.
Those who prefer fantasies and religious solipsism still perpetuate religious
teachings which debauch science, abuse the minds of our youth, assuage fragile
egos, divide humanity, and render us a danger to ourselves and our planet.
To kill an error is at least as good a service, and sometimes better, than the
establishment of a new truth or fact.

Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor takes Judaism where no religion has gone
before, combining the best of all Jewish denominations with spirituality, science,
reason and social action. Its founder, Rabbi Sam Silver championed interfaith
harmony and dialogue with those of differing points of view. His son, Rabbi Barry
Silver follows in his father’s footsteps with interfaith dialogue on important issues
of our day. Join with us and help us build the Judaism of tomorrow.
