Hello fellow survivors of the year 2020:
This year, I seek to expand the reach of our congregation, which was founded by my father, our beloved Zeyde, who devoted his life towards using our Jewish heritage to improve our lives and the world. He was a rational thinker and said all religious concepts, even belief in God, must be rational, supported by evidence, and treated as a hypothesis, and thus subject to logical analysis, growth and change..
My dad founded Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor and we stand on his shoulders and use his legacy as inspiration to combine the revelations of science and religion. As Einstein said, science without religion is lame and religion without science is blind. Human history has shown the horrors, massacres and ignorance that result from religion without science, and recent history in America reveals the deadly consequences of a government that ignores and even wages war on science.
2020 hindsight reveals the urgent need to unite science and religion, as well as science and government. Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor is dedicated to my father’s vision of a rational faith, uniting the people of the world to improve our lives and to improve humanity. Judaism and science are both referred to as candles in the dark and together they can form a mighty flame, that leads our species out of the darkness and into the light.
I am therefore requesting that our entire community serve as vanguards and champions of a new form of spirituality based on a rational faith which I call InspiRational religion. Einstein envisioned a new phase of spirituality of the future which he called “Cosmic Religion” which went beyond the tribal to the cosmic, expanding our concerns beyond our own group to include the wellbeing of all living things, and expanding our vision beyond our own planet to embrace the entire cosmos. Carl Sagan, who had a Bar Mitzvah, also spoke of the unity of religion and science in his fantastic book and TV series called Cosmos.
Please check out our latest Shabbat celebration which welcomes the New Year with a vision of hope for the future. I provide a link to this Shabbat video below and ask you to share it with your friends and social media contacts. We are trying to spread the word about this new concept for religion that has the capacity to save humanity from itself and offers a brighter future where religion can be used to build bridges of understanding rather than walls of separation and can spread knowledge rather than ignorance. The Shabbat video is less than an hour, but if you do not have time to watch it all, please see my inspirational message and the amazing video that immediately follows my message which begins at 29:05 in the video. I would also greatly appreciate it if you would provide feedback about what you liked and your insights on how we can improve.
With best wishes for a joyous new year and all my love,
