Holocaust Memorial & Museum TripDarrell Schwartz, President This past December the Confirmation Class along with our Chaverim took a special trip down to Miami Beach to visit the Holocaust Memorial and the Jewish Museum. Our L'Dor Va-Dor Religious School students where most certainly awed, moved, touched and inspired by all that they saw on this trip. Some of the students stated they believe they will remember this trip forever.   These are 14 students who are 13 years of age and older.  They attend the Confirmation classes in our Religious School.  Most had never visited the Jewish Museum or the Holocaust Memorial.  It was an "eye-opening" experience.

The Holocaust Memorial Trip   by Suzanne Burstein

The Holocaust Memorial in Miami gave an enlightening perspective of what it felt like to be a Holocaust victim. First, we saw a movie that depicted what the victims endured and how this memorial came into existence. A great deal of work went into creating the statues. The first statue portrayed a woman protecting her two children. Then we walked through a narrow passageway with pictures on the wall, which showed how the victims suffered in horrible conditions. Somber music played throughout the exhibit. An eternal light burned in the center of the passageway. In the center of the courtyard, stood a giant statue of G-d's hands surrounded by statues of horrific scenes of Holocaust victims. A wall surrounding this statue listed the names of the Holocaust victims. Upon exiting the courtyard, another passageway showed more pictures of the suffering and humiliating circumstances that the victims endured. A trellis was above the passageway to depict the railroad tracks. They built several small slits in the wall to recreate the feeling of how it felt to be in the crowded railroad cars. From behind the wall, we saw a lake with a reflection of G-d's hand. A statue at the end showed that the woman and her two children from the first statue had died.  The Holocaust Memorial made me appreciate my life and freedom!

I reflect just a bit to the beginning of this school year.  Congregation L'Dor Va-Dor Religious School was met with a wonderful challenge.  Several new families joined us and we had students enter our upper grades having little or no Hebrew or Religious training.   These students and their families and our L'Dor Va-Dor Family made a commitment to "catch up" on all of the missed education.

Their education began with the obvious...the parents promise to bring the students to class every week.  With regular tutoring from our dedicated volunteers, Sharon Leibowitz and Debbie Brass, wonders were worked!  In addition, to the Hebrew tutoring, these students also attended regular religious school classes to learn history, traditions and life cycle events from Mr. Kagan and Mrs. Hirschberg.

Shalom,

Roni Ennis

In the event of inclement weather, or due to unforeseen reasons, the teachers or administration will use every means possible to contact a parent of a student.   If you would like to be on an e-mail cancellation list, please make sure the school office has your e-mail. Cancellations will also be posted on the temple Website.

Attendance Policy

It is anticipated that all religious school students attend our Religious School according to the published Calendar. Attendance requires not only the student’s presence, but TIMELY presence throughout the course of the ENTIRE scheduled session.  Students are considered tardy if they arrive after 9:30 a.m. on Sundays and 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.  Our Congregation requires that students complete their religious school training to become a Bar/Bat Mitzvah.  Attendance counts toward that requirement.  Parents, please assist in setting an example for your children by assuming responsibility for their timely attendance.  Please note that the Religious School  requests students to attend Services as per the section titled, Worship Service Attendance.

Worship Service Attendance

Students in grade 7 should attend Services twice a month.  Students in grades 3-6 should attend Services once a month.  Students in the lower grades are encouraged to attend Services as often as possible.  This is a great place to practice prayers.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Parents must accompany all students into the synagogue and sign them in each time they attend.

Parents must come into the synagogue and sign their child(ren) out each time they pick them up.

WE DO NOT ALLOW STUDENTS TO REMAIN OUTSIDE THE BUILDING FOR PICK-UP.

Thank you for your full cooperation.  This is for the safety of all of our children.

Please review the procedures each year with your child as they are subject to change
